Bent Symmetry

NFS

This sculpture was made when I settled on the idea of stacking stone balls while considering the symmetry of the shape.

And then it came to mind that perfect symmetry is purely mathematical. Artistic stacking of balls is very likely not perfect. Without jigs and tools or music of a perfect fifth perfection is difficult to achieve.

Look at the pictures. Decide for yourself if this sculpture is bent? Or is this just a matter of perspective?

Description

This sculpture has a 3.1 inch diameter stone ball stacked on top of a 3.5 inch diameter stone ball. Both balls were shaped from the same source boulder from Canmore, Alberta.

The Ferruginous Hawk was cast from a silicon bronze.

The piece is mounted on a custom cut granite base.
