Description
This barn owl was cast with 2.4 kg of silicon bronze in two parts, the owl and the base.
The owl was given a bismuth nitrate patina for the white tones on the face and breast. A ferric nitrate brown patina was applied on the other areas to provide the rich brown colour on the body. It was shaded with liver of sulphur and black highlights on the eyes, beak, and claws with a black patina. The cast base for the owl was darkened with liver of sulphur.

The pink outer rim is composed of opal. The layer within it, is usually red or red-brown and contains a concentration of iron compounds (hematite and goethite).
